Netanyahu has fired Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for the second time, citing a trust crisis.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for the second time, citing a "crisis of trust" amid Israel's ongoing war against Hamas and Hezbollah.

Netanyahu appointed Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz to replace Gallant, with Gideon Saar succeeding him.

Israel Defense Secretary David Gallant has been fired, a move that came as a surprise to some allies.

The decision to fire Gallant comes amid the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as Israel prepares to defend against a potential Iran attack.

There are questions about the reasons for Gallant's firing and the motivation behind the decision.

Gallant, a former Israeli military officer, has been in regular communication with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin since October 25.

Gallant was fired in March 2023 due to concerns over a judicial overhaul, but was reinstated when he backed down on implementing the reforms.

The Israeli Prime Minister, Netanyahu, has been criticized for his decision to fire Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, causing tensions between the two sides.

Gallant, who is a prominent figure in the conflict, has expressed his disapproval of the move and has called for a clearer strategy before restarting a military push into Gaza.

He also emphasized that Israel will not be involved in establishing a government in Gaza if it succeeds in eliminating Hamas.

The Hostages' Families Forum, which represents the families of 101 Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, has expressed concern about the firing and its potential impact on the hostages' fate.

The National Security Council has referred the matter to the Israeli government for personnel decisions.
